Following a degree in Sociology (minors in psychology and philosophy) and an early career working in social services with at-risk teens and families, interests in mind-body integration brought Kelly to study neuromuscular therapy and yoga.
After graduating from the Center of Advanced Therapeutics, Kelly founded The Balanced Being in 1997 to support clients in living active, pain-free lifestyles through shifting dysfunctional pain patterns.
Kelly continued studies in advanced bodywork therapies and moved into teaching therapeutic massage modalities at the Center of Advanced Therapeutics. Classes taught include Neuromuscular Therapy, Anatomy in Clay, Deep Tissue Techniques, Swedish Massage, and assisting in Advanced Neuromuscular Technique seminars. Kelly's manual therapy practice addresses injury and pain and includes specialty groups of athletes and prenatal.
Steven Norber LMT, CIYT, C-IAYT
Steven integrates a lifelong history of body awareness with an inquiry into what it means to be human. With a wide array of experience, including a career as a professional dancer (classical ballet), ballet instructor, physical therapy assistant, social service worker, counselor, neuromuscular therapist, and yoga instructor, Steven works with people to create an authentic space for health and wholeness. Steven holds a BA in psychology along with master's level psychology and education classes at the University of Colorado-Denver.
In 1999 Steven completed the certified and advanced program from the Center of Advanced Therapeutics in bodywork and neuromuscular therapy. In addition to maintaining a bodywork practice in both Denver and Broomfield, Steven taught neuormuscular therapy to massage therapists and a special course for physical therapists. Steven continues to offer anatomy and physiology training for yoga teachers.
Steven was introduced to yoga as academic study in 1976 during high school. A traumatic brain injury received in 1986 moved him ever more inward and eventually led him to France to study with Iyengar teacher Francois Raoult. Through this meeting it became clear to Steven that the path of Iyengar yoga had been waiting for him. Partnered with his teacher training with Nancy Stechert, Steven served as instructor for the anatomy & physiology component. A Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Steven has studied with the Iyengar's in Pune India, Rajiv and Swati Chanchani in Rajpur India, and attends teacher's classes offered by senior instructors in the United States.
Married in 1999, Steven and Kelly enjoy traveling, being in nature and, of course, yoga with their center "Living Yoga". Inspired by the love of music (albeit lacking musical talent), Steven has endeavored to keep music in his life through designing and manufacturing high end audio components with his company PranaFidelity.
Andrea Tracey LMT
Andrea (pronounced: Ahn-DRAY-uh) was called to massage therapy by a lifelong fascination with how one’s physical, mental, and spiritual state all play a role in health. She is a longtime yoga and pilates practitioner who never tires of learning about the human body and the incredible healing it is capable of. Andrea also practices Reiki and finds its gentle power is a complement to somatic bodywork. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, with a concentration in food justice and humanistic therapy. A graduate of Denver Integrative Massage School, Andrea interned at The Balanced Being and is excited to join the team. Believing that every individual is the expert on their own body, she finds that the client then becomes the teacher. Andrea aims to help each client reach their goals by reducing pain, improving mobility, and promoting a more regulated nervous system.
Amelia Jacobs LMT
Amelia believes in cultivating a sense of belonging in one's body, honoring that each person's relationship with their body is unique, ever-changing, and deserving of care. Working primarily with deep tissue, myofascial release, and Swedish techniques, Amelia weaves in breath awareness, body attunement, and verbal check-ins drawn from a rich somatic background. This collaborative approach is rooted in the belief that genuine therapeutic skill includes knowing when to lead and when to listen, always in service of what each person most needs.
This philosophy was built over years of working with the body in many contexts. From completing a BFA in contemporary dance with a concentration in choreography and a minor in psychology at Concordia University in Montreal, to working with individuals with disabilities through mindfulness, yoga, and movement upon returning to Denver. That work led to a 200-hour yoga teacher training through the Accessible Yoga School and additional training in accessible and adaptive yoga methods with local teacher Liza Aslor Morgan.
A graduate of Denver Integrative Massage School, Amelia is honored to join The Balanced Being. Amelia remains active in their movement practice as a member of Denver and Boulder's Contact Improvisation community and by offering yoga classes to folks living with Alzheimer's and Dementia. This is an ongoing commitment to an accessible and creative movement practice that continues to inform and enrich their work as a massage therapist.
